Our view of the service

Peterborough is a supported living service. It provides personal care to people living in their own homes. At the time of our assessment,7 people were receiving support with personal care. The service is registered to provide support for younger adults, people living with dementia, learning disabilities, autism, mental health, older people,people with physical disabilities, sensory impairment, people who misuse drugs and alcohol and children. At the time of our assessment,no children were in receipt of the regulated activity.

This was the first assessment for this service since it was registered with the Care Quality Commission on 30th September 2022. This was a planned assessment based on the date of registration with the CQC. This service has been rated good in all five areas of safe, effective, caring,responsive and well – led. We will continue to monitor information we receive about the service until we return to visit as per our assessment programme. If we receive any concerning information we may assess sooner.

We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

People were supported safely. Staff understood their safeguarding responsibilities and were confident in reporting concerns. Risk management was personalised and reflected people’s preferences, communication needs and the structured routines that helped them feel secure. Medicines were managed safely.

People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected their privacy and dignity. They treated them as individuals and supported their preferences. People had choice in their care and were encouraged to maintain relationships with family and friends. Staff responded to people in a timely way. The provider supported staff wellbeing. 

Staff felt supported by senior staff and felt able to raise any concerns with them. There were enough staff to provide support to people in the way they chose. Staff received training to enable them to provide safe and dignified care. The provider completed a range of audits to monitor the quality of the care. The provider had a process to assess a person’s ability to make informed decisions about their care.

Overall, the service delivered good,safe and person-centred care and demonstrated a commitment to learning and improvement.

People's experience of this service

People were positive about the quality of their care. They felt safe and were fully involved in planning their care and understood their rights. People were given choices and this was respected, if people then changed their mind staff supported them to understand this was ok. Some people could not directly tell us about their experience. We used a structured observation tool to assess whether they received good care. This approach showed people were included and listened to and staff consistently interacted positively with them. People had developed good relationships with staff, staff knew people well, and we observed lots of laughing and smiling. People were supported to attend day provision and work opportunities and take part in activities within the community that they belong. We saw photographs of holidays and experiences people had been able to have, every photo highlighted genuine enjoyment and pleasure. People felt able to complain and were confident action would be taken and improvements would be made. People knew staff and leaders well. Relatives were positive about the experiences their relatives had.
