Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect.This is the first inspection for this service. This key question has been rated good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect; and involved as partners in their care.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect. People and their relatives told us staff were kind and caring. They felt confident that information about their care and personal details was treated confidentially. People said they were treated with dignity and respect. Staff told us care and support were provided in a way that ensured people’s dignity was upheld, including delivering personal care in private. Feedback from people and their relatives about staff was positive, with comments such as, “Staff are patience, kind, lovely, empathetic’’ and "They are all kind and respectful, some serious and others chatty. They are all very nice." We also received positive feedback from external professionals. One professional told us, “We often have good feedback from people that the carers are providing good care, they are kind and considerate.’’

Treating people as individuals

The provider treated people as individuals and made sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They took account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics. People told us they were treated as individuals, and staff took the time to get to know them well. We received positive feedback from people and their relatives. People and relatives said staff understood what was important to people and provided care in line with their wishes and preferences.

Independence, choice and control

The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing. People were supported to maintain their independence, make their own choices, and remain in control of their care and support. They were actively involved in decisions about their care. When appropriate, relatives and healthcare professionals were involved in decision-making, and their views were listened to and respected.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff respond to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress. People and their relatives said the provider communicated effectively and kept them informed. Staff responded promptly when people became unwell and took actions to help minimise any discomfort or distress. Daily records were completed to support staff in monitoring people’s changing needs and responding appropriately. This helped ensure people received consistent and timely care.

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care. Staff told us they felt supported by the registered manager. Staff wellbeing was prioritised, and the registered manager demonstrated appreciation for the team’s work. Regular staff meetings and opportunities to work together helped promote a positive and inclusive working environment. The registered manager also maintained an open-door policy, which staff said made it easy to access advice, reassurance, and practical support when needed. One staff member said, “The registered manager is approachable, supportive, and leads by example. I feel confident in her leadership - she's visible, communicates well, and prioritises both staff and people we support. Makes a positive difference.’’
