Several of the treatments offered at the clinic were off-license (where a medicine is used outside of the terms of its product license). These were only recommended for use where alternative licensed treatments had been unsuccessful. When people were prescribed these the provider ensured that they informed the person, explained any potential risks and side effects and what the expected benefit was to be. Treatment would only begin once consent was obtained, and staff routinely monitored people to ensure the treatment was having the desired effect.

We reviewed the records for people prescribed different treatments including Glutathione IV, Kenalog, Botox and weight-loss injections.

There were several prescribers employed at the service. Their training and competency checks were being completed regularly and were up to date at the time of the inspection.

Prescribers followed the in-house protocols when offering off-license treatment to ensure it was the most appropriate option available for that individual. They ensured that where possible licensed treatments would be used instead.
