Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

The provider treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect. A health care professional said, “[Registered manager] seems to have a good relationship with [people].” Staff knew people and their relatives well. Relatives told us people were treated with kindness by staff and the registered manager.

Treating people as individuals

Score: 2

The provider did not always treat people as individuals or make sure people’s care, support and treatment met people’s needs and preferences. They did not always take account of people’s strengths, abilities, aspirations, culture and unique backgrounds and protected characteristics. Relatives told us they felt people were treated as individuals. However, we saw some care plans did not document people's personal, cultural, social or religious needs. This left people at risk of being supported by staff who did not know how to treat them as individuals in relation to their needs and personal preferences.

Independence, choice and control

Score: 2

The provider did not always promote people’s independence, so people did not always know their rights and have choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.A relative told us, “They [staff] consistently give me choices regarding [relative’s] care.” However, there were no measures tailored specifically to take children’s own personal choices or needs into account. This left people at risk of having no choice or control over the care they received.

Responding to people’s immediate needs

Score: 3

The provider listened to and understood people’s needs, views and wishes. Staff responded to people’s needs in the moment and acted to minimise any discomfort, concern or distress. Relatives spoke positively about how staff responded to people's needs. A relative told us. "[Person] has made so much progress and is much happier with the consistency and routine they have now.”

Workforce wellbeing and enablement

Score: 3

The provider cared about and promoted the wellbeing of their staff and supported and enabled staff to always deliver person-centred care. Staff members told us they felt supported by and listened to by the registered manager. A staff member said, "Everything is working well for me so far, and I am happy with the relationship between myself and the management.”
