Our view of the service
Date of inspection: 4 November to 18 November 2025. Grove House Residential Care Home is a care home providing accommodation for persons who require nursing or personal care. It is registered to provide care for up to 29 older people. This inspection was completed to check compliance with the conditions placed on the provider’s registration at the last inspection. We found overall the issues raised at the last inspection had been addressed. This included the significant risks identified in relation to the fire risk assessment and the management of the risk associated with Legionella. Processes to support safe medicines practices had also significantly improved.
Whilst we found action had been taken to address issues of concern, there remained some areas needing further improvement. We therefore found the provider continued to be in breach of 2 legal regulations in relation to safe care and treatment, and good governance. The provider had introduced a range of quality assurance tools, but these were still to be fully embedded. Some records continued to lack information and improvements to the environment were ongoing. Where accidents and incidents took place, managers reviewed them to identify trends and any learning from them.
During the inspection we spoke with people who lived at the service, relatives, staff, and the managers of the service. We observed interactions between people and staff. On the day of our visit, there were sufficient levels of care staff to support people’s day to day needs. People were offered choices of food and drink. Arrangements were in place for cleaning of the home on a daily basis but there were some areas in relation to infection prevention and control that needed improvement.
Staff completed training relevant to their roles to keep their skills and practice updated.
The provider had a management consultant working with them to help make and sustain improvements to the service. Managers worked with external teams to ensure people received the care they needed. It was evident the management team were committed to further ongoing improvements. Areas we had identified needing immediate attention on the day of our visit were completed on the same day.
People's experience of this service
People spoke positively about the service. Overall, risks to people’s health and safety were managed although records were not always up to date. People told us they felt safe and at ease with the staff that supported them and knew who to speak with if they wished to raise any issues. Relatives also confirmed this. People said staff were “friendly and helpful” and were usually available to support them when needed. People felt they received the support they required and if they had to wait, this was usually within an acceptable period of time.
People told us they were involved in everyday decisions about how they spent their day and were offered choices such as what meals and drinks they wanted. People were offered opportunities to enjoy gentle exercise to support their independence and mobility. Where people had restrictions related to their care, applications to deprive them of their liberty had been submitted for authorisation in accordance with legislative requirements and we saw those with conditions added, were met. People and relatives told us they were happy with the standards of care although it was not always clear all risks associated with their care were met. Comments included, “The staff are very good and very helpful; they do the best they can and always pass on my messages to the family. They may be short staffed sometimes at weekends, but if anyone is in trouble they are on to it straight away and it would soon be sorted,” and, “When I’m there the staff appear to be very caring and attentive.”
