Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 23 February 2026 to 26 February 2026.
The Grange is a 'care home' providing accommodation and personal care to up to 19 people. People in care homes receive accommodation and personal care under one contractual agreement. CQC regulates both the premises, and the care provided, and both were looked at during this inspection. At the time of the inspection, 14 people were living at the service.
This is the first assessment of the service under a new provider. We carried out a comprehensive assessment. This assessment was unannounced.
We found breaches of regulations in relation to, safe care and treatment, premises and equipment, good governance and fit and proper persons employed. Suitable arrangements were not in place to ensure all staff employed were safely recruited. The registered manager’s governance arrangements did not always provide assurance the service was well led. Quality assurance systems were not robust and had not identified the shortfalls we found during our inspection.
In instances where CQC have decided to take civil or criminal enforcement action against a provider, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded.
We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns found at this assessment.
People's experience of this service
People were supported to have maximum choice and control of their lives and staff supported them in the least restrictive way possible and in their best interests; the policies and systems in the service supported this practice. Staff had a good understanding of people's preference of care and staff promoted people's independence.
A person told us, “I am happy living here. It is the perfect home for me.” A relative told us, “[Relative] is safe and they tell me everything about them. The communication is really good with the home.” However, another relative told us, “I feel [relative] is generally safe. I have big concerns around the care [relative] receives but I don’t think [relative] will come to any harm there.”
