During a routine inspection

At the time of our visit there were 18 people living at Park Lodge who required assistance with household chores, paperwork or personal care. We spoke with the one person using the service and four members of staff, including the deputy manager.

We asked the person if they were happy with their care at Park Lodge. They told us, 'it's ok to live here. The staff are ok, they talk to me kindly and nicely.'

The person confirmed they consent to things on a daily basis. Their records showed they consented to the care they received and it was reviewed on a regular basis.

People felt safe at Park Lodge and staff understood how to safeguard vulnerable adults from abuse.

People's health, safety and welfare was ensured as there were enough experienced and skilled staff to support people.

People were asked for their views of the service and the provider took account of people's complaints and acted on them efficiently.

During a routine inspection

We spoke with three people using the service and saw how staff interacted with other people. We found that people felt able to approach staff to engage in conversation or to ask for help.

One person who spoke with us said they had only been using the service for a few weeks and thought so far that it was 'fantastic'. This person said they knew who their key worker was and felt able to talk with any of the staff when they wanted to. Another person told us they preferred talking with their key worker only but felt that all staff did a good job and that they felt safe. One person said 'I feel able to talk through things with my key worker and other staff.'

Each person had a care plan that stated what their personal support needs were. The plans were specific to the aims of the service.

We looked at how well staff understood Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and the Mental Capacity Act (2005). The manager and two members of staff we spoke with understood each of these issues. Staff training and supervision records showed that each member of staff received regular training needed for their roles and all but the most recently recruited project worker was qualified at National Vocation Qualification Level 3.

The project received regular visits from an area manager who checked the quality and standards of support.
