During a routine inspection

Tony Long House is registered to provide two regulated activities. As well as providing care and support to the people living in the six bedded house, a seperate domiciliary agency operates out of the home providing personal care to people in supported living accommodation. This inspection only looked at the regulated activity of accommodation for persons who require nursing or personal care living in the home. The home has its own staff team.

People living in the home we spoke with told they were happy with the care and support they received. People told us they were treated with respect by the staff and that their dignity was maintained. People told us they enjoyed the food but some people said they would like more choice over their main meal.

We found that generally people were involved in the planning and reviewing of their care. We saw that everyone had person centred plans in place.

Medication was administered safely and that staff were correctly trained in this area.

We found there were some shortfalls in the organisation and deployment of staff numbers. We also found shortfalls in the on-call arrangements for the contacting of senior staff. We have required that improvements are made.

During a routine inspection

People who lived in the home told us they got on well with the staff and were treated as individuals. People said privacy and dignity was respected.

People were involved in planning and reviewing their care and support.

Support was provided to access the local community for social and vocational activities. The home was personalised and adapted to meet individual needs.

Relatives told us the home made them welcome and communicated professionally with them when a need arose.

Staff told us they were well supported by the management and undertook regular training which helped them carry out their roles.

The manager explained how they undertook regular checks and audits of the service to ensure that standards were maintained and risks correctly managed.
