Our view of the service

The Emilie Galloway Home of Rest, also known as Tweed, is a residential care home providing accommodation and personal care for a maximum of 21 people. The provider is a registered charity overseen by a group of Trustees. There was an experienced registered manager in place. Support was given to people with a range of needs including those living with Parkinson’s disease, diabetes and dementia. At the time of inspection there were 17 people living at the home. We undertook this assessment due to the length of time since our last visit. Staff treated people with kindness and respect, delivering care that was person centred with risk assessments in place that were regularly reviewed and updated. People were encouraged to have choice and control over their lifestyle and daily routine. People’s social needs were prioritised and due to the home’s central location a wide range of activities were available each week, including trips out to the town or to the seafront. The home was clean, equipment was well maintained and environmental risks were safely managed. Recruitment was thorough with the required employment checks being completed prior to staff being allowed to support people. The provider carried out pre-assessment checks prior to admission ensuring people’s care needs could be managed. People’s nutrition and hydration needs were sustained, with the home offering a choice of meals and catering for any preferences or dietary requirements. A culture of openness and transparency was promoted, and the home had a welcoming friendly atmosphere. The registered manager ensured people were treated fairly and that the principles of equality and diversity were adhered to. Management provided regular opportunities for people and staff to give feedback and acted to implement positive change when needed.
