Caring
Staff consistently demonstrated kindness, respect, and attentiveness in their interactions with patients. Feedback from patients was positive, with many describing the service as professional, reassuring, and compassionate. They took time to explain procedures, offer comfort, and respond to individual needs, including those related to anxiety, accessibility, and communication.
Patients were treated with dignity throughout their visit, and the environment supported privacy and comfort. Staff wellbeing was actively considered, with evidence of peer support, regular meetings, and a positive team culture.

Kindness, compassion and dignity
Patients were treated with kindness and respect throughout their visit. Staff introduced themselves, explained procedures clearly, and offered reassurance before and during scans. Patients were given the opportunity to ask questions and were supported to feel comfortable, including the use of blankets, music, and mirrored glasses for those with claustrophobia. Feedback collected during the assessment and via patient surveys described staff as “friendly”, “helpful” and “very professional”.
Privacy and dignity were maintained through the use of individual changing cubicles, gowns, and controlled access to scan areas. Staff were observed to be attentive and considerate, and patients reported feeling well cared for.

Responding to people’s immediate needs
Staff responded promptly and sensitively to patients’ individual needs.
Patients with anxiety or claustrophobia were offered additional time, reassurance, and pre-scan walkthroughs. Adjustments were made to support comfort, including the use of angled mirrors, music, and dry-run sessions. Patients with mobility needs were supported using slide boards, and alternative arrangements were made for those requiring hoist transfers.
Language and communication needs were addressed through access to interpreter services, including British Sign Language and a language support telephone line service. Staff did not rely on family members to interpret. The service was wheelchair accessible throughout, with the exception of the rear fire exit.
Workforce wellbeing and enablement
Staff described a positive and supportive working environment. Regular team meetings were held, and staff were encouraged to raise concerns and contribute to service development. The management team was described as approachable and responsive, and staff reported feeling valued in their roles.
Staff wellbeing was considered through flexible rotas, peer support, and access to rest areas. The service had low turnover and no recent vacancies, and staff were observed to work well together.
Training and development opportunities were available, including attendance at conferences and study days. Staff were supported to maintain competencies and pursue professional growth.
