During an inspection looking at part of the service

During our visit in August 2011 we spoke with three residents and the relatives of two residents who live on the nursing unit at the home. The majority said that staff work hard, do their best to look after them and are kind and caring. However most said they there is not enough staff, so sometimes staff are rushed or they have to wait for things to be done, particularly at busy times of the day. The relatives of one resident told us that they were not happy with the care provided at times. For example, care not been provided in a timely way when needed to the standard they would expect.

We did not speak with people who live on the home's residential unit during our August visit as those we spoke to during our previous visit in April were happy with the care provided and their quality of care. We also did not identify any concerns with the residential unit in April and have not information since to give us any cause for concern.

During an inspection in response to concerns

The majority of people we spoke to during our visit to the home said they were quite happy or happy living there. They were positive about the staff at the home using words such as 'kind' and 'caring' to describe them and all said that they are looked after well. They were also generally positive about the quality of food at the home and said that there are choices available and that alternatives will be provided. The people we talked to about their medicines said that they were happy with the way they were given their medicines. A visitor said that staff were kind and patient when giving medicines but there were days when staff shortages caused delays.
