Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 29 June to 10 July 2026.

The service is a care home with nursing, registered to support up to 74 people older people who may be living with dementia. This comprehensive inspection was triggered by our ongoing monitoring of the service. At the time of the inspection the service was supporting 44 people.

The service was well managed by the registered manager who had a good understanding of the service, it’s strengths and challenges. They were well supported by both their management team and the provider, which had enabled them to make changes to the service, over the last year which they continued to embed. Staff felt supported and valued in their work.

There were robust processes in place to ensure people were only admitted to the home if their needs could be met safely and to ensure they experienced continuity of care if they moved between services. People’s consent for their care was sought.

Staff used a range of nationally recognised tools to identify and assess risks to people, whilst also involving them in decisions about their care. People had access to a range of healthcare professionals who worked with staff to plan the safe delivery of people’s care.

People were well cared for by staff and treated as individuals. Staff encouraged people to make their own decisions about their care and respected their choices. People’s care plans were reviewed monthly or more frequently if there was an incident, to ensure they remained up to date. Processes were in place to seek people’s feedback about their care and the service.

The registered manager had acted to reduce the use of agency staff for people, and a number of staff were about to commence work.

Whilst there had been several safeguarding concerns raised earlier this year. The registered manager and the provider had acted immediately to ensure people’s safety. Staff had been informed of the resulting changes to practices and updated on the outcomes from safety incidents.

However, whilst the registered manager and provider have significantly strengthened the home’s governance processes. Further work was required in relation to some aspects; we found some audits were not fully robust and some aspects of record keeping needed improvement.

The service was in breach of 1 regulation in relation to good governance.
