Our view of the service
Dates of assessment: 25 November 2025 to 17 December 2025.This assessment included a site visit. Oak Tree Mews is a care home without nursing for up to20people.There were15people living at the care home at the time of our inspection. The care home supported people living with and without dementia. This was the first assessment for this location under a new provider. The reason for this assessment was partially due to some emerging risk identified through routine monitoring and feedback provided to CQC.
The overall rating for this service was Requires Improvement. We found improvements were needed in many areas of oversight and governance including medicines management, infection control, and management of allergies and dietary needs. We found multiple instances where identified risks were not safely mitigated by leaders. The care home did not provide assurance medicines were being managed safely, particularly in relation to the administration of homely remedy medicines. We found some gaps in the appropriate assessing of people’s needs. We did not receive assurance leaders had robust oversight of possible risks in the care home.
However, we received positive feedback from people living at the care home and their relatives about the care people received and the compassionate and respectful approach of staff. Staff knew people living at the care home well and mostly supported them with a person-centred approach. Professional partners who worked with the care home provided positive feedback. The provider demonstrated a commitment to staff wellbeing, and staff reported feeling valued by their team and employer.
During the assessment, we identified 6 breaches of regulations. The care home was in breach of legal regulations in relation to people’s safe care and treatment, good governance, consent and safe premises and equipment, notification of other incidents, and statement of purpose.
We have issued the provider with a warning notice in response to the concerns found at this assessment and we will continue to monitor the progress. In instances where CQC has begun a process of regulatory action, we may publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded, if the action has been taken forward.

We spoke directly to many people living at the care home and their relatives and observed interactions between people and staff. People we spoke with expressed they were generally happy with their care. We observed some kind and caring interactions between staff and people. Comments from people included, “Care is very good. I’m well looked after”, “They are all ever so nice here. Makes it so comfortable. They do everything really good and well” and “I like it, it’s really nice”. Relatives told us, “She [family member]is tremendously well looked after. Staff always answer questions. Her frailty has increased but she’s settled. They go beyond and above”; “They just pay everyone a lot of attention –conversation, jokes and make her feel at home. We were really worried, but they made it easy. She loves all the staff” and “Carers treat them like their own family”.
