Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 16 December 2025 to 13 January 2026.

Stansfield Hall Care Home is a residential service registered to support up to 22 older adults. At the time of our assessment there were 16 people living in the home. The assessment included 2 on site visits, with additional information and evidence reviewed remotely. The assessment was prompted due to the length of time since the previous inspection and information of concern shared by the local authority.

At our last inspection, published in December 2019, the home was rated good overall. At this inspection we found breaches of the legal regulations in relation to premises and equipment, safe and effective staffing, and good governance. The home is now rated requires improvement.

Effective management systems to help monitor any accidents, incidents or concerns had not been implemented and embedded helping to identify areas of improvement and learning.

Robust recruitment processes were not in place to evidence staff suitability for work. Accurate and complete staff rosters and training records were not maintained. Areas of staff training and development needed improving.

People’s received their prescribed medicines safely. Improvements could be made to some administration records and information to guide staff.

Work was required to improve the standard of accommodation. Significant work was also required in relation to fire safety ensuring the premises was safe. Accurate information was needed to guide staff in the event of an emergency. Several concerns were identified in relation to the management of infection prevention and control.

People had their needs assessed on admission but there was no consistent review of people’s needs which included the person and their families.

Staff were familiar with people’s needs however documentation that was used to monitor health and well-being was not always completed accurately.
People living in the home were offered a large variety of food and drink and were supported to attend activities. Staff were kind and respectful and promoted people’s independence. Staff attended to people’s immediate needs and contacted other healthcare professionals for support when needed.

Adaptations in the home helped to the home to be accessible, however the environment was not dementia friendly.

People were not supported to plan for the end of their life, and we could not be assured that appropriate support was provided to those approaching the end of their life.

The vision and aims of the home were not shared with staff and regular staff meetings did not take place. Staff training was out of date, and the necessary support and guidance had not been provided to the manager to enable them to fulfil their role competently. However, the familiarity staff had with the people they supported helped to ensure they received person centred care.

Meaningful audits were not completed and there was no system in place to manage current performance and identify any gaps in knowledge. The provider had not sourced support in relation to dementia care and the necessary documentation was not in place for when people moved between services.

The provider did not encourage or support continuous learning and there were no systems in place to facilitate this.
