Our view of the service
About the service
30 Milton Road is a care home registered to provide accommodation and personal care up to 8 people diagnosed with autistic spectrum disorders and/or learning disabilities. At the time of our assessment 3 people were living at the service. We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.

This service supports younger people with autism and/or learning disabilities.
Key findings
We carried out this assessment on the 26 August 2026. This service was previously rated as good. We carried out this assessment to confirm whether the rating of good remains accurate. This report does not provide detailed information on areas where we found practice continues to meet a good standard. Instead, our findings focus on any areas where the service needs to improve or where we found exceptional practice.
The provider had established effective systems to help protect people from the risk of abuse. Staff understood their safeguarding responsibilities and knew how to recognise and report concerns. Staff were confident concerns would be listened to and acted on appropriately by the management team.
Staff understood the process for recording accidents and incidents and knew when concerns needed to be escalated. Risks to people, including risk within their home environment, were identified, assessed and regularly reviewed to help ensure they received safe care. People’s needs were assessed before their care commenced and reviewed regularly to ensure the care provided continued to meet their individual needs.
Staff spoke positively about the registered manager of the service and described them as supportive, approachable and fair. They told us the registered manager provided clear guidance, listened to staff and support them to develop their skills. One staff member said, “[Name of the registered manager] helps and directs you. [Name] speaks to you calmly. [Name] will teach you how things should be done.’’ Another staff member said, “[Name] is a great manager who knows how to adapt their approach for different staff members to make sure everyone feels supported and uplifted.’’
Another staff member described the registered manager as supportive to staff and the young people living at the service and said’ “[Name of the registered manager] is a supportive manager for our young people and the staff. He always helps us to the best of his ability, ensuring more effective teamwork that allows us to support our young people in the best way possible.’’
Staff described good communication and teamwork within the service. They told us they worked closely together, shared information and understood each other’s strengths and areas where they needed support. One staff member explained, “We work as a team. We talk to each other and learn about each other. There is a free flow of communication, and it has been working well.’’
Another staff member said, “We work well together. We help each other because we know all our strengths and weaknesses. Management is supportive; they listen and help. We have a lot of banter here.’’ Another staff member told us, “I feel I am part of a good team. We work in harmony for the well-being and safety of the young people.’’
The registered manager also described a positive working environment where staff and the people supported were valued. They said, “It is an enjoyable place to be and work. It is a home where my staff feel valued and the people we support are valued. I empower people and encourage them not to worry.’’
People, relatives and staff were encouraged to share their views about the service. The provider had systems in place to use this information to support continuous improvement. Staff received appropriate training, supervision, competency assessments and ongoing support to carry out their roles safely and effectively, including the safe administration of medicines.
Governance and oversight systems supported the provider to monitor the quality and safety of the service. Recruitment processes and staff support arrangements were in place to help ensure people were supported by suitable staff. The positive feedback from staff, particularly about teamwork, communication and management support, reflected a culture where staff felt valued and supported to provide good care.
People's experience of this service
People spoke positively about the care and support they received and described staff as kind and understanding. They told us staff took time to listen, understood their individual needs and supported them in ways that promoted their independence and wellbeing. One person told us, “Staff give us space to live our lives independently, but they make me feel secure. I can talk to them when I am feeling down. They listen, which is useful. ’They continued and said, “Staff are incredibly patient and understanding.’’
Another person said, “Staff treat me fairly. They are nice and have my best interests at heart.’’ And another person added, “Staff are very nice and very understanding.’’
Relatives also shared positive experiences of the service and spoke highly of both the care staff and the management team. Relatives described the management team as “professional, caring and extremely knowledgeable.’’ One relative also told us, “I can only say very positive things about Milton Road, its management and staff. They have been an invaluable support for myself and my loved one and continue to be.’’
Another relative said, “Staff ensure they balance the right amount of independence with safely monitoring wellbeing and whereabouts.’’ And another relative added, “Staff at Milton Road always have my loved one best interests at heart. Even though my loved one may not always appreciate the decision or rules in place, I can definitely see that care is personalised and well thought out.’’
People and their relatives also spoke positively about the registered manager of the service. One person said, “[The registered manager name] is firm but fair. [Name] work with us, and the support is entirely personalised.’’ Another person said, “[Name of the registered manager] treats everyone fairly. [Name] knows what they doing and manages this home well.’’ One relative said, “I feel management are caring and genuinely want to get the best out of our loved one.’’
People described the home as homely, welcoming and safe place to be. One person said, “The home is unique and accommodating, and bespoke in some ways. They genuinely care, which feels lovely.’’
Feedback from professionals also reflected positive experiences of the service and the support provided to people.
Overall, the feedback demonstrated that people experienced kind, responsive and person-centred care. People and their relatives felt listened to, valued and supported, with staff promoting independence while also ensuring people’s wellbeing and safety were maintained.
