Our view of the service
Caremark (Barnsley) is a domiciliary care service providing personal care to people in their own homes. The service supported people of all ages, with different health and care needs. Not everyone who used the service received personal care. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) only inspects where people receive personal care. Personal care indicates that a person requires help with tasks related to personal hygiene and eating. Where they do, we also consider any wider social care provided. At the time of our inspection, the service supported 42 people, 39 of whom received personal care.
At our last assessment the service was rated requires improvement. They were previously in breach of legal regulations. We were concerned about a failure to notify relevant agencies of incidents and staffing at the service. At this assessment the service has made improvements and are no longer in breach of regulations. The service is now rated good. People, staff and relatives told us the service was well led. Staff felt supported in their roles and were trained to carry out their roles effectively.
People's experience of this service
Some improvements were required to records about people’s care, risks and medicines. This was a recording concern and people received safe support from staff who knew them well. The provider had recognised where improvements were required to records and was continuing to update these at the time of our inspection. People and their relatives were happy with the care and support they received. They told us staff arrived on time, stayed for allocated support times and were kind and compassionate. One person said, “They (staff) are lovely to me, they are brilliant. They take me shopping, cook my food, and do my cleaning.” A relative said, “They are brilliant with [Name], staff look after them and have conversation with them. The main one is (staff name), they are brilliant. I have no complaints whatsoever.” Another person said, “I know when staff are coming, everything is organised and on time. I get the same staff and they are very good.”
