Our view of the service

Date of inspection 18 and 19 June 2026.

Harvey Lane is a care home, registered to support up to 8 people with learning disabilities and/or autistic people. At the time of our inspection, 5 people were living at the service in receipt of a regulated activity.

The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulation in relation to good governance. Improvements were found at this inspection and the provider was no longer in breach of this regulation.

We assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted. Harvey Lane demonstrated they were meeting the requirements of this guidance.

People were supported by staff who knew them well, in an environment which was well maintained and homely. People were protected from harm and risks relating to peoples’ care needs were mitigated using the least restrictive options.

The service empowered people to be in control of the decisions and choices they made, in conjunction with healthcare professionals and legal representatives.

Staff were kind, knowledgeable and caring. They demonstrated a good level of understanding of people’s complex needs. Staff spoke positively of the training they received and told us they enjoyed working with the people they supported.

The management team were open and transparent, and demonstrated a commitment to ongoing improvement. Where we identified concerns through our inspection process, the manager took immediate action to rectify these. Staff, people and their families had confidence in the registered managers ability to lead the service successfully and told us standards had improved under their leadership.

People's experience of this service

We spoke with people living at the service and their families. Where people could not provide feedback to us, we undertook observations of people’s experience.

People told us they enjoyed living at Harvey Lane. One person said, “I am happy here and I feel safe”. We saw that people regularly went out and enjoyed activities such as swimming, visiting the cinema and going to the seaside by train. These activities were always arranged in line with peoples expressed wishes or choices. The service used creative ways to engage with people, such as buying a water sprinkler for a person to use in the garden for its sensory benefits in the recent hot weather.

People’s rooms were personalised and communal areas were welcoming. Staff engaged with people in a kind and compassionate way and created an atmosphere which was relaxed.
