Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 7 October 2025. Oakdene is a residential care home providing support to adults of all ages living with mental health conditions and physical disabilities. At the time of the assessment, the service was supporting 35 people with their personal care needs.

Oakdene was last rated good, (published 19 December 2019). We undertook this assessment due to the age of the previous rating.

People were protected and kept safe whilst living at Oakdene. Staff understood, identified and managed risks safely. Where appropriate, staff supported people with positive risk taking to help them improve their confidence and independence. People were consistently supported to achieve their long-term goals such as moving into supported or independent living. The facilities and equipment met people’s needs, were clean and well-maintained and any risks mitigated. Staff were recruited safely and received a comprehensive support and development programme to ensure they had the required skills, training and knowledge to support people.

The registered manager had developed a good learning culture which fostered open and transparent communication. Managers at all levels investigated incidents thoroughly and lessons learned were shared with staff regularly. Quality monitoring process in place were effective at identifying areas of concern or improvement which supported staff to deliver safe person-centred care responsively.

People's experience of this service

Most people living at the home were unable to provide us with detailed feedback about their experience of living at Oakdene. However, people we did speak with told us they felt, “safe and happy.” Through observations of people and staff during the assessment, we saw staff had built trusting relationship with people. People were consistently supported to make decisions and asked how they wanted their care to be delivered. People responded positively to staff and were confident to approach staff for support when needed. Staff respected that Oakdene was people’s home, and this was evident in the pride people took in showing us the home environment.

Professionals we spoke with during the assessment day, who worked with the service such as pharmacists, nurses and GPs praised the level of care and support people received and were able to describe how people received positive experiences and outcomes consistently.
