Our view of the service
The service provides residential care and personal support for older adults, including people living with dementia.
People received care from a committed and compassionate staff team dedicated to promoting their wellbeing, independence, and overall quality of life. Feedback from people using the service, their family members and staff was on the whole positive, reflecting a caring environment underpinned by kindness, openness and a commitment to continual improvement.
The service was led by a visible and supportive management team who fostered a welcoming, family-centred culture where people, family members and staff felt valued, respected and listened to. Staff embodied the provider's values in their daily practice and were motivated to deliver personalised care that recognised each person's unique preferences, needs and wishes. People were actively encouraged to make decisions about their care and daily routines, with staff taking time to understand what mattered most to them.
People and their family members told us they felt safe and confident in the care provided. Staff demonstrated a good understanding of safeguarding responsibilities and knew how to identify and respond to concerns. They worked collaboratively with healthcare professionals and external agencies to promote people's safety and wellbeing. A positive and open culture was evident throughout the service, with staff feeling empowered to raise concerns, reflect on incidents and learn from experiences to improve practice.
People had timely access to healthcare support when required. Staff worked effectively alongside a range of health and social care professionals to ensure care was coordinated and responsive to individual needs. Care assessments and support plans were thorough and regularly reviewed, ensuring they remained relevant as people's needs changed. Staff responded promptly to any changes in health or wellbeing, helping people achieve positive outcomes, maintain independence and support healthier lifestyles.
Staff consistently upheld people's dignity and privacy while encouraging their involvement in decisions about their care and support. People were supported to engage in meaningful activities and pursue interests that enhanced their wellbeing and quality of life.
Systems were in place to monitor the quality and safety of the service, with audits and governance processes used effectively to identify trends, measure performance and drive continuous improvement.
People's experience of this service
People and their family members consistently provided positive feedback about the service and the quality of care provided. They described staff as kind, caring and attentive, and told us people were supported to live well and maintain a good quality of life. One family member told us, "The staff are all lovely, They are kind and caring as well as being helpful." Another said, "This is the most fantastic care home, we are so grateful to have found such a fantastic place for [Name]."
People and family members told us they felt safe and well supported. Feedback highlighted staff's knowledge of people's individual needs and the continuity of care provided. Although some family members commented people occasionally had to wait for support, our observations found sufficient staff were available to meet people's needs in a timely way and people appeared relaxed and comfortable in their surroundings.
People told us they were involved in decisions about their care and support and were encouraged to make choices about how they spent their day. We observed staff promoting independence, respecting people's preferences and supporting them in a way that reflected their individual needs. One person told us, "This is my home now and I don't miss my last one at all."
Family members spoke positively about communication from the service and told us they were kept informed about their family member's wellbeing. Regular updates were particularly valued by relatives who did not live locally. People and family members knew the management team well and described them as approachable, responsive and visible within the home.
Feedback demonstrated people experienced care that was person-centred, responsive and focused on what mattered to them. People were supported to maintain relationships, pursue their interests and remain involved in decisions affecting their lives.
