Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 19 February to 27 March 2026. Upton Grange Residential Home is a residential care home providing accommodation and personal care to up to 25 people. The service provides support to older people and younger adults, including those who may be living with dementia.

 

At the time of our assessment there were 18 people using the service. At the last inspection the rating was requires improvement. We undertook this assessment to check improvements had been made. We found improvements had been made and the overall rating has changed to good.

 

The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulation in relation to good governance. Improvements were found at this assessment, and the provider was no longer in breach of this regulation. However, some focus was needed to strengthen management oversight of aspects of medicines management. The registered manager and provider were open to feedback and took responsive action to any issues we identified during this assessment.

 

Lessons were learnt to continuously drive improvements and safeguarding concerns were reported to the local authority.

 

The service was pleasantly decorated and was clean.

 

There were sufficient staffing levels within the service and safe recruitment systems were in place.

 

The provider worked collaboratively with other health professionals to support people. Health professionals confirmed referrals were made in a timely manner.

People's experience of this service

We spoke with people, their relatives, and healthcare professionals about the care provided. Feedback was consistently positive regarding the support offered by staff. People told us their needs were met promptly, and they felt safe and well cared for. Comments included, "I'm quite happy - the food is nice and I have plenty to do," "Staff are very good and very efficient" and "Staff are nice and pleasant."

 

People were treated with kindness, empathy and compassion. We observed frequent warm interactions with people, and staff treated people with dignity and respect. Staff knew people well.

 

Relatives told us they were kept up to date with any changes about people’s health or their care needs.
