Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 18 August to 25 September 2026.

Madelayne Court Care Home is a residential care home providing accommodation for persons who require nursing or personal care with capacity for up to 112 people. There were 108 people living at Madelayne Court Care Home at the time of our assessment. The service provides care to older people. This was a fully comprehensive assessment, and we looked at all 5 key questions.

Governance systems were in place and the provider carried out regular audits which helped to ensure people’s safety and wellbeing was maintained, help drive improvement and reduce the recurrence of some incidents. We saw evidence of regular reviews of care plans and risk assessments.

Staff understood their responsibility to safeguard people from the risk of abuse; they were knowledgeable about what concerns they would need to report and to whom.

Staff were kind and spoke to people in a dignified way, however at times they appeared to be more task focused in their interactions. Staff had good knowledge of people’s everyday needs.

The home was clean and welcoming. Equipment was serviced regularly and environmental checks were completed to ensure the safety of the service. People received their medications as prescribed.

Staff had received appropriate training and had regular supervisions. Staff were recruited safely, with appropriate pre‑employment checks completed. Staff told us they were happy at Madelayne Court and were passionate about the people they supported.

There was a registered manager in place and staff told us they felt supported and able to raise any concerns with the management team. The registered manager was responsive to feedback throughout the assessment.

People's experience of this service

We spoke with people and their relatives to gain insight into the care they received at Madelayne Court Care Home. Most people and their relatives we spoke with told us they felt safe living at the home. One person told us, “I feel safe because people are here to look after me. I do find them [staff] are very kind to me.”

However, some people and their relatives felt there was not always enough staff available, which impacted aspects of wellbeing such as activities. One relative told us, “I don’t feel [relative] is encouraged to join in anything, they [relative] are in their room most of the time.”

We used a structured observation tool to assess whether they received good care which helped us to assess if people were being included and listened to and how staff interacted with them. During our observations, we sawthat staff interacted with people in a kind manner, however it sometimes appeared more task focused.

People and their relatives told us they felt able to raise concerns and that management were approachable and friendly. Comments included, “I would know how to complain if I had to.”
