Overview

Inspection carried out on 29 January 2014

During a routine inspection

During our visit to the hospital we spoke with five patients on the ward who had attended for a surgical procedure. They were very happy with the care and support they had received and were fully informed about their treatment. Two patients described their hospital experience as, "Brilliant".

We found that staff cared for, and supported people to meet their needs in a safe way.

We checked recruitment records and found that an effective recruitment and selection procedure was followed. When matters relating to employee performance were raised, these were addressed fairly and appropriately.

Patient care records were well maintained, accurate, appropriate and safely stored. We also found that records relating to staff recruitment and support, audits, policies and procedures, the maintenance of the building and specialist support were in place. These records demonstrated to us that the service was being managed to ensure that people were protected against the risks of unsafe or inappropriate care.
