Our view of the service
MSI Reproductive Choices Regional Treatment Centre - Bristol is operated by MSI UK Reproductive Choices. The service provides termination of pregnancy as a single specialty service. Although the service was based in Bristol, it was commissioned to provide a service to women in Bristol and the surrounding areas.
MSI Reproductive Choices Regional Treatment Centre Bristol offered consultation, medical assessment including ultrasound scanning, and early medical abortion for women with a pregnancy of less than 10 weeks gestation, surgical termination of pregnancy up to 23 weeks and 6 days. It also offered vasectomy procedure. From June 2024 to June 2025, the service completed 2,048 early medical abortions, 962 surgical abortions, 2% of all terminations were for women under the age of 18. The service completed 637 vasectomies in the same time frame.
Treatment options were determined by the gestation of pregnancy and patient choice. As part of the care pathway, women were offered sexual health screening and contraception.
The service operated a TeleMedical Hub, an early medical abortion service provided through telephone consultation. This part of the service was available for women who wanted to manage their termination of pregnancy at home and had a pregnancy of less than 10 weeks gestation.
This inspection was carried out because of risk, and because the service was not previously rated.
A team of three CQC inspectors and one specialist advisor visited the service on 16, 17 and 24 July 2025.
We spoke with 11 staff (including midwives, nurses, managers, and administrative staff), and 5 women. We looked at 6 sets of patients notes, observed 3 consultations in the telemedical hub and 3 consultations in the face-to-face clinic.
People's experience of this service
Patients and any family or carers with them were all positive about staff treating them with warmth and kindness and providing effective care and treatment.
Patient feedback collected by the service between January and March 2025 was positive and included the following statements.
“Booking and call with nurse, and counselling was really good.”
“Extremely satisfied. Everything explained at all stages. Staff were helpful.”
“For something so terrifying to go through the whole team were amazing throughout the whole process. and made me feel so safe and comfortable. I can’t thank them enough for being so understanding and caring.”
“I cannot recommend MSI enough. It’s a scary thought having to go through a termination of pregnancy for whatever your reason is, however MSI were fantastic…. At no point did I feel any judgement.”
