Our view of the service

Date of Assessment: 8 March to 30 May 2025, with site visits on 08 March and 09 March 2025. This was a planned assessment due to concerns identified during the previous assessment. Brampton Lodge is a residential and nursing home supporting up to 60 people. At the time of the inspection 55 people were living at Brampton Lodge. The home was undergoing positive change under new leadership, with a recently appointed Home Manager and Deputy Manager. The Home Manager had applied to be the registered manager at the time of the inspection. The provider had proactively addressed previous inspection concerns and breaches in regulation 12 Safe Care and Treatment, regulation 11 Need for consent, regulation 9 Person Centred Care and regulation 17 Good Governance by scheduling targeted staff training, increasing leadership visibility, and introducing robust quality assurance measures. Staff consistently described a positive atmosphere and expressed hope for ongoing investment in their development and support. Brampton Lodge demonstrated a strong partnership approach with external professionals and showed evidence of reflective practice following incidents, indicating a learning-focused and increasingly proactive culture. Managers thoroughly investigated incidents and used these to identify lessons learned, ensuring safety improvements. Regular audits covered care records, medicines management, health and safety, and staff competencies. Brampton Lodge promoted an environment where people were seen, heard, and supported as individuals, and where their personal identity and preferences were central to the care they received. People we spoke with living at Brampton Lodge felt cared for and protected. The home supported people to remain in control of their lives, with staff embedding independence and informed choice at the heart of care delivery. People were treated equally and had access to healthcare services in a timely manner. The facilities and equipment met people’s needs, were well-maintained, and kept clean. Staff were skilled, experienced, and committed to delivering person-centred care. Staff treated people with kindness, dignity, and respect, actively safeguarded privacy and supported individual preferences.

People's experience of this service

People living at Brampton Lodge and their relatives consistently described the home as safe, welcoming, and respectful. People told us they feel secure, valued, and satisfied with the care they receive. One person told us, “I am very happy here.” Staff were praised for their kindness and attentiveness, even during busy or challenging times. For people unable to verbally share their experiences, our observations demonstrated staff responded promptly and compassionately to their needs.

The feedback we received from people and their relatives reflected a caring culture where people felt safe and supported enough to raise suggestions for improvement. Relatives’ feedback was overwhelmingly positive, highlighting staff compassion, effective communication, and responsiveness. One relative told us, “You don’t even have to prompt the staff. You ask and it’s already done.” Several relatives told us about improvements since the introduction of new leadership, particularly regarding staff morale and openness to feedback. Strengths identified included cleanliness, respect for dignity, and personalised care approaches. All relatives expressed confidence in the safety and quality of care provided to their loved ones.
