Our view of the service

Date of Inspection: 01 to 03 September 2026.

 

Albany House - Stratford-upon-Avon is a care home which now provides accommodation and care to people. Some people living at Albany House - Stratford-upon-Avon live with mental health support needs, or have complex health needs. The home is registered to provide care and accommodation for up to 8 people. There were 6 people living at the home at the time of the inspection.

There had been improvements to governance of the home since our last inspection, and regular checks were now undertaken so that the registered manager and provider could be assured people received good care.

Staff understood people's individual risks and how to support them safely. They worked with people to understand their preferences, choices and goals, providing support at a pace people were comfortable with. This helped people achieve outcomes that were important to them, increase their independence and supported people to live fulfilling lives.

Staff were confident if they raised any concerns about people’s safety senior staff would take action to support people.

People's communication needs were understood and supported. Staff worked with people and their relatives to develop personalised communication approaches where needed.

Some areas of the home had recently been refurbished, and there were plans to further improve the décor of the home. The home presented as clean.

Staff felt supported in their roles through supervision, staff meetings and shift handovers. They were encouraged to share ideas and contribute to service improvements and felt listened to by senior staff. The registered manager was committed to supporting staff development and providing opportunities for learning.

Staff worked well with other organisations to support people to enjoy opportunities to spend time in the community and to access the support they needed from other organisations, including health and social professionals, employers and housing providers.

The registered manager planned to further develop opportunities for people to plan for their future wishes.

People's experience of this service

People were positive about their lives and the support they received at the home. They told us staff helped them to live the lives they wanted and supported them to achieve goals that were important to them. Relatives were complimentary about the care provided and said they could easily contact the registered manager when they wished to discuss any aspect of their family member's support.

People told us staff supported them to access healthcare services promptly when needed, including emergency services. They said staff helped them attend appointments with a range of health and social care professionals, which supported them to maintain their health and wellbeing.

People had developed positive and trusting relationships with staff and felt comfortable in their company. They were confident to tell staff how they wanted to be supported and said staff listened to them. As a result, people received personalised care focused on achieving outcomes that mattered to them. People described becoming more involved in their local communities, joining local groups and libraries, gaining employment and developing the confidence to access their communities independently. Some people benefited from consistent support over extended periods, enabling them to achieve significant goals, including developing the confidence and skills to travel overseas independently and maintain important relationships.

People's rights to make decisions about their own lives were respected. This included supporting people to manage their own medicines where appropriate, maintain their privacy and choose how they spent their time. People told us staff encouraged them to share their views about the service and suggest improvements, and said senior staff were approachable and listened to their feedback.
