Updated 24 January 2024

The Care Quality Commission had received information of concern relating to staffing levels, meeting some people’s needs, accidents and incident recording, laundry and medicines management oversight. We requested information from the provider regarding these concerns. The provider and new manager met with us in an on-line meeting on 22 January 2024. There were sufficient numbers of staff to meet people’s needs. There had been no medicine errors and staff had been provided with medicines management training. We were assured that people were able to access food and drink 24 hours a day. There had been a change of clothes drier which had not been as efficient as the old one. Some laundry had been temporarily outsourced and the provider was in the process of increasing the capacity of the service to meet all their laundry requirements within the service. All accidents and incidents reported were recorded and actions were taken to help reduce the risk of reoccurrence.

Governance, management and sustainability

Score: 3

Some systems and processes were not yet fully implemented. The new manager, supported by the provider, was in the process of setting these up to help them to have robust oversight of the running of all aspects of the service. The provider assured us that a Service Improvement Plan was now in place, and they were working closely with the local authority quality assurance team.

The service had recently experienced a change in management with the registered manager leaving their post and a previous manager returning to the service. This had led to some staff leaving. The local authority had visited the service recently and were providing ongoing support and guidance. The service had raised any concerns appropriately and in a timely manner.
