Our view of the service
St Anne’s Nursing Home is registered to provide care, nursing and support for up to 58 people. The service provides residential and nursing care for older adults, some of whom are living with dementia. This was a responsive inspection prompted by concerns about the safety and management of the service. Following this inspection, we were fully assured by the practices within the service for keeping people safe. The inspection took place between 17 October and 19 October 2025. At the time of this inspection, there were 43 people living at the service.Safeguarding procedures were in place and risks to people’s safety had been assessed. There was a strong culture of learning and improvement through the service. A relative said, “The manager and staff team are working really hard, and you can really see the improvements.” Recruitment processes were in place and staff were employed to ensure they had the necessary values and skills to support people and provide care. People received their medicines as prescribed. People can only be deprived of their liberty to receive care and treatment when this is in their best interests and legally authorised under the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA). In care homes, and some hospitals, this is usually through MCA application procedures called the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS). We checked whether the service was working within the principles of the MCA, whether appropriate legal authorisations were in place when needed to deprive a person of their liberty, and whether any conditions relating to those authorisations were being met. Feedback was sought from everyone and used to shape the service and drive improvements. Partnership working and links were made, and the service and staff were passionate. Staff felt appreciated and valued. There was confidence in the provider, the manager and the management team. A member of staff said, “Anything we need, we get, we ask and we get it.”
People's experience of this service
People and their relatives told us St Anne’s Nursing Home was a safe place to be. The relaxed, inclusive family feel to the service was appreciated by all. Relatives were welcomed to the service and included, able to spend quality time with their loved one whilst being offered support, understanding, a listening ear and a cup of tea. People told us staff were there when they needed them. People had access to healthcare when they needed and were confident their wellbeing was the focus for staff. People and their relatives told us staff were kind, compassionate and caring, often mentioning individual staff who had made a significant impact on their lives. A relative said, “Sometimes I watch the staff, and I just don’t know where they get their patience and kindness from.” Another relative said, “Staff are so caring, they are marvellous.”
