The service should have quality checking systems to manage risks and assure the health, welfare and safety of people who receive care (outcome 16)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Benefit from safe quality care, treatment and support, due to effective decision making and the management of risks to their health, welfare and safety.

How this check was done

We looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service, carried out a visit on 28 March 2013, talked with people who use the service and talked with staff. We reviewed information we asked the provider to send to us.

Our judgement

The provider had an effective system to regularly assess and monitor the quality of service that people receive.

The provider had an effective system in place to identify, assess and manage risks to the health, safety and welfare of people who use the service and others.

Reasons for our judgement

We saw the provider’s complaints policy. We were told that the provider’s complaints form was available in the person’s home. If a person had a concern, they would raise it with care staff. If it was not resolved, they would contact the registered manager or the provider’s administrator.

A staff member told us that a lot of feedback from people about the service is verbal. If a person wished to change their package of care, the provider would report to the care manager involved.

We reviewed some quality assurance forms that had been completed by staff and by relatives. These were very positive. Staff felt supported and that their manager was available according to the three forms we sampled.

Relatives described the strengths of the agency as ‘reliability, flexibility, ease of contact, brilliant overall’. One family member wrote “They consider the needs of the user.”

The provider may wish to note that the results of the most recent annual survey were not available at the time of our inspection.
