Equity in experiences and outcomes
Staff and leaders actively listened to information about people who are most likely to experience inequality in experience or outcomes and tailored their care, support and treatment in response to this. The service encouraged feedback and involvement from people and their relatives to improve care outcomes. For example, we saw that recently the provider had conducted a building survey. This asked people using the service what they thought of the building. Following the survey an action plan was put in place for areas to be addressed. That included having more flowers in the garden and garden games.
There were parent/carer satisfaction surveys surveys and we saw comments that showed deep satisfaction with the service. For example, “George Beal Short Breaks makes a huge difference to our family’s well-being and our [family member] loves staying there.” And “We are grateful that we can enjoy a few days respite knowing that [family member] is in safe hands and is happy being there.” And “All the staff are wonderful and supportive.”
Staff were aware of the importance of listening to people, they told us they treated people equally and without discrimination. Staffing was consistent which enabled them to build rapport a with people, to understand their needs and how they wanted their support to be provided. One member of staff said, “Some of the people who come here for respite have been coming for years. A lot of the staff have also been here a long time. So, we get to know people well. We also work very closely with families because they are the biggest and best source of information.” Records showed mandatory training was in place for equality and diversity for all staff.
