All Inspections

25 July 2013

During a routine inspection

At the time of this inspection the agency was providing personal care to 23 people. We spoke with eight of these people, or their relatives, and three care workers. Everyone expressed satisfaction with the care they received and the main care workers who visited them. For example, one person said "My care workers are brilliant, they are there for me". Another told us that "I am offered care as I wish, I trust them completely"

People also told us that they had been involved in making decisions about the service and support they wanted. People told us they could complain. One person told us "If there is a problem I ask them about it and they answer me politely". One relative told us " The care is very safe. I am very confident in them".

People were protected from abuse and they told us they felt safe with their care workers.

Recruitment procedures and staff training meant people were cared for by staff trained and supported to do their jobs.

There was an accessible complaints procedure and all records were well maintained and held securely.

During a routine inspection

To help us to understand people's experiences of the service we telephoned them, as this is a domiciliary care agency. At the time of the inspection the manager confirmed that they were providing care and support to six people. We spoke with people's relatives and the staff supporting the service users. We contacted some people who use services but we did not receive a response. We were told that people were supported by the same staff most of the times. Relatives said that the staff were good and they were mostly satisfied with the care and support their family members were receiving. They commented that the staff were courteous and respectful when caring for their relatives.

People told us that they had an initial meeting with the manager when they first started receiving care. They said they were not aware of care plans. Relatives were not able to tell us about of reviews of their care. There was a lack of risks assessments in order to minimise their impacts on people and staff such as the environment, moving and handling and equipment.

We found that information and processes for safeguarding people were not clearly defined and all appropriate steps were not in place to inform staff's practices. The recruitment process was not robustly implemented for all new staff. People were confident that any concerns raised would be addressed to their satisfaction. We found that records were not always maintained securely and available when we requested them.

During a routine inspection

People said that they are satisfied with the service they receive. They said that information about the service was provided and that they have a copy of their care plan with the times that support is provided. People were aware of the times that they have support and confirmed that care staff are punctual and reliable.

People commented: 'They treat me well,' 'The service is very good,' and, 'They have a very good staff team.'
