Our view of the service

Fitzwilliam Hospital is an independent hospital based in Peterborough and is operated by Ramsay Health Care UK. The hospital provides surgery, outpatients and diagnostic imaging for adults and treated private and NHS patients. We conducted a planned unannounced on-site assessment of surgery services on the 27 February 2024, following the Care Quality Commission (CQC) Single Assessment Framework (SAF) and assessed against the safe, effective, and well-led key questions. The overall rating for this service is good. We rated the key questions as good because care and treatment was safe, staff delivered care following evidence-based care and treatment and the service had effective governance arrangements. During our on-site assessment we identified the service was not fully compliant with its own medicines policy and processes. However, the service had an action plan in place to address any short falls in the service to ensure compliance. Throughout the inspection, we took account of what people told us and how the provider understood and complied with consent, safeguarding and the Mental Capacity Act (2005).

People's experience of this service

Overall, we were assured people received good care and people’s experiences were positive. We spoke with patients while on site and reviewed people’s feedback from the provider. Comments from patients, families and relatives reflected a caring and positive experience and included feedback such as ‘lovely caring staff that puts you at ease’ and ‘all of the staff were wonderful, and my consultant explained things very clearly.’
