Our view of the service
The onsite visit took place on 17 March 2026 due to an aged rating. This independent hospital provided surgical services for both NHS and self-funding patients. These included orthopaedics, gynaecology, urology, and general surgery. There was one ward of 22 beds where surgical patients were cared for. The hospital had two operating theatres.
The quality of care and treatment of children aged between 16 and 18 years of age undergoing surgical procedures was not reviewed as part of the assessment of surgery.
The service had a good learning culture and staff and patients could raise concerns. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience in each area and patients were provided with safe care and treatment that was based on latest evidence and good practice guidance. Staff were caring and compassionate with patients aware of how to feedback to the hospital about their care. Information was available to meet individual needs and care was given to meet those needs. Leaders had oversight of the quality of service being delivered through effective governance and risk management systems.
There were no breaches of regulation identified at the last inspection.
People's experience of this service
We spoke with 4 patients on the ward. Patients were positive about the staff treating them with warmth and kindness and providing effective care and treatment. Patients confirmed their pain was well managed and they were supported to move around as much as possible after their operation. Patients said the call bells were always answered promptly and they all felt they could get assistance if needed. Patients told us they were given time to ask questions about their procedure and staff had checked they understood what they were having done. Feedback from stakeholders was positive and they reported feeling assured about communication and the working relationship.
