Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 23 July to 27 July 2026.
Mount Pleasant House is a residential home providing care and support for up to 19 older people, some of whom may be living with dementia.

The service was no longer in breach of regulations in relation to governance. However, we identified new breaches relating to safe care and treatment and recruitment.
An assessment has been undertaken of a service that is used by autistic people or people with a learning disability but is not registered as a specialist service. We have assessed the service against ‘Right support, right care, right culture’ guidance to make judgements about whether the provider guaranteed people with a learning disability and autistic people respect, equality, dignity, choices, independence and good access to local communities that most people take for granted.
Systems for the safe management of medicines were not followed. The temperature of the room where medicines were stored had exceeded safe limits on several occasions.
Monitoring processes, designed to help ensure risks to people’s health were quickly identified, were not consistently adhered to. Staff did not have information available so they would know when to escalate concerns.
Staff and management did not always work within the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 (MCA). Mental capacity assessments were not consistently completed and those that had been completed were not decision specific.
Recruitment processes had not been followed to help ensure staff were suitable to work in the care sector.
There was no registered manager, and a manager had recently left the service. However, satisfactory governance arrangements had been put in place to provide effective oversight of the service. The provider was pro-actively seeking to recruit a new manager.
New auditing systems had been developed and were being implemented to help drive improvements and ensure and gaps or shortfalls were promptly highlighted.

People's experience of this service

People and relatives were complimentary of the service and of staff. Comments included, “[Relative] thinks they are in a 5-star hotel!”, “All the staff are friendly and chatty. It is such a good place for [pronoun]” and “[Name] gets on with the staff and they get on with [Name].”
People told us they had enough to do. An activity co-ordinator was employed, in addition, care staff had protected time when they focused on activities. The World Cup had recently taken place and people had enjoyed watching matches and supporting the England team. One relative told us, “[Relative] has been enjoying the football, singing, making flags, it was lovely to see. They always said they didn’t want to go into a home but it’s worked really well.”
Relatives told us they were always made to feel welcome and could visit at any time. They were kept updated of any changes in people’s needs.
