Caring – this means we looked for evidence that the provider involved people and treated them with compassion, kindness, dignity, and respect. At our last assessment we rated this key question as good. At this assessment, the rating has remained a good. This meant people were supported and treated with dignity and respect and involved as partners in their care.

Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 4

The provider was exceptional at treating people with kindness, empathy, and compassion and in how they respected people’s privacy and dignity.

The registered manager demonstrated strong leadership and a clear commitment to delivering personalised care which was tailored to each person. Their enthusiasm was reflected across the staff team, supporting the delivery of a high standard of care to people.

Feedback from relatives was overwhelmingly positive, with support provided from the initial meeting until they were admitted to this service. One relative said “They are brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. We knew nothing about social care and homes, and the registered manager supported and is really accessible. [Name] is keen gardener, they have their own little patch, and it’s an amazing space.” Another relative said “During the preadmission, they asked a range of questions, then they went to see [Name] in hospital. It was a really positive admission process, they were brilliant. This was the first care home we saw, and we knew straight away. I can go away and relax. I leave here and feel totally safe. They keep me up to date with everything. “

The atmosphere within the service was calm, inclusive, and supportive. Interactions observed during this assessment consistently promoted people’s sense of independence and wellbeing. Staff took time to engage with people in a meaningful way, showing patience and understanding. People were supported at their own pace, and staff adapted their approach to meet people’s individual needs.

Small but meaningful practices were embedded across the service to support people and staff. For example, the provider ensured veterans t were recognised and were able to access veterans’ groups to build positive relationships. They took pride in being recognised as part of the Veterans friendly framework. These approaches demonstrated a thoughtful and compassionate culture that recognised the importance of people’s experiences and increased staff awareness.
