Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 09 June to 23 June 2026
Burlington Hall Care Home is a care home supporting people who may be living with dementia, a physical disability, mental health support needs or a sensory impairment. The service provides accommodation for people who need personal care or nursing care. The service can support up to 70 people, and 62 people were living at the service at the time of our inspection.
At our last inspection, this service was rated good. At this inspection the rating for the service has changed to outstanding.
The way in which people’s needs were assessed and how the staff team supported them in line with best practice guidance, had led to some very positive outcomes for people. The way in which people’s health and wellbeing was monitored, as a priority by the management and staff team, had led to improved health related outcomes. People had been supported to improve their health, in areas such as mobility, nutrition and mental health, as a result of the support the staff had given them. The staff and management team worked exceptionally well with health professionals when people needed their help. As a result, people had been supported to improve their health and wellbeing, achieving positive outcomes through coordinated and person-centred care.
The registered manager and wider management team were exceptional at leading and driving a shared vision and positive culture at the service. Putting people at the centre of their support was a key value for the staff team and the service had a tremendously friendly and positive feel to it as a result. The management team understood every aspect of their job roles and utilised their knowledge and skills to ensure staff supported people to the best of their ability. Staff knew and supported people incredibly well as a result. The staff and management team linked and worked brilliantly well with partners and communities to ensure people had the best support they could. Despite the high standard of care already being delivered, the staff and management team remained dedicated to continually improving the service and people’s experiences as a result.
People were safe living at the service and staff were knowledgeable about safeguarding. There were enough staff to support people safely. People’s home environment was safe, and staff followed good infection and prevention control (IPC) procedures. The majority of people’s care plans and risk assessments were detailed about how to support them. People were supported in line with the Mental Capacity Act (MCA). People and relatives told us staff were exceptionally kind, and we observed staff supporting people with dignity and respect. Staff supported people to make choices in their day to day lives. People and relatives were supported to feedback about the service regularly. The management team’s audits were effective in identifying and driving improvements.
People's experience of this service
Without question, feedback from people relatives and professionals using the service was extremely positive. We also observed staff to be incredibly kind and caring when supporting people and as a result they were very happy and relaxed. People reacted very positively to staff presence, and it was clear from our observations how well staff had been supported to get to know people truly as individuals. People’s experiences in relation to their health and wellbeing were exceptional in areas such as mobility, eating and drinking and wellbeing. One person said, ‘‘I am incredibly grateful for everything the staff do. They work so hard to make sure I am well care for and have everything just how I like it. I am so happy here.’’ Relatives’ comments included, ‘‘I visit [family member] almost every day.I would say this is their home and it definitely is. We were made to feel welcome. [Registered manager’s] door was always open for me to talk with them and seek information. We felt comfortable and among friends.’’ and ‘‘From the outset it proved to be a remarkable, memorable albeitoften heartbreaking journey, [Registered manager] and staff gave all of their time, their care and their compassion. They cared for [family member] with consummate professionalism and the greatest tenderness. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble. They are truly outstanding.’’ A professional told us, ‘‘I am very impressed by the care given at Burlington Hall. Staff work very hard and they are very caring and professional in the way they looks after people and their relatives. They work well with us for the better of people.’’
