Our view of the service
Dates of assessment were from 21 May 2025 to 11 July 2025. The assessment was triggered in response to the age of the rating for the service and included visits to the service on 21 May and 12 and 18 June 2025. Sandholme Fold is a care home providing personal care for up to 44 people, some of whom are living with dementia. At the time of our inspection there were 38 people living at the service.
We identified a breach of regulation relating to good governance. There was a lack of oversight at the service and quality assurance systems and processes were not effective. Improvements were needed in relation to managing risks to people’s health and safety, managing medicines, some aspects of staffing and provision of person-centred and dignified care.
We have asked the provider for an action plan in response to the concerns in relation to good governance.
People's experience of this service
Most people said they felt safe at the service and spoke positively about the staff who they described as kind, caring and responsive. One relative said, “Staff are really helpful”. While people expressed general satisfaction with their care, our assessment found the care provided did not always meet the expected standards. People’s dignity was not always protected, and care was not always person centred. People did not always have access to meaningful activities to promote their independence and well-being. A relative told us, “There are no longer any activities for the residents to enjoy”.
