Caring
The provider had ensured that people were supported by a dedicated staff team which had been selected based on their ability to deliver high quality and personalised care. This provided people with a consistent approach and helped reduced incidents associated with people's anxieties. Staff supported people to take positive risks and overcome barriers which enabled people to live a fulfilled life of their choice. People were cared for by staff who were kind and compassionate. A relative reported people and their families were treated with dignity and respect and their views were acted on.

Independence, choice and control
The provider stated 'The ethos of Protective Care Group (PCG) is rooted in recognising the voices of the individuals in our care and empowering them to actively participate in shaping their care journey.' They recognised the importance of effective communication, reflective practices and acting on people's views to enable staff to promote people’s independence, rights and to support then to have choice and control over their own care. These values underpinned the provider's policies and culture.
Most staff felt people's care plans were personalised and provided them with the information they needed to know to support people. Staff gave examples of providing people with choices and promoting their independence such as choosing clothes to wear and outings. One staff member explained they used 'hand over hand' guidance to support people to brush their teeth independently. Staff stated they supported people to participate in activities of their choice and maintain contact with their friends and family.
Relatives were assured that people received personalised care which supported people's rights and choices. They provided examples of how staff supported people to achieve their goals and wishes and promoted their independence. Relatives said they had developed open and positive relationships with staff and managers to ensure their family member lived a meaningful life which helped to develop their skills and promoted their independence.
