This care home is run by two companies: Barchester Healthcare Homes Limited and Scarborough Hall Limited. These two companies have a dual registration and are jointly responsible for the services at the home.

Our view of the service
Date of inspection: 12 and 13 November 2025. Rothsay Grange Nursing Home provides accommodation with nursing and personal care for up to 66 people. Accommodation is arranged over 2 floors with stair and lift access. At the time of this inspection there were 52 people using the service. Our inspection was prompted by concerns received about the safety of care being delivered. We reviewed all the quality statements and found no concerns with people’s safety. At the last inspection the service was rated good. At this inspection the service remains rated good.
Risk assessments had been completed and regularly reviewed, and care plans informed staff how to keep people safe from harm. Staff had the right skills, qualifications and experience to meet the needs of people and staff knew how to support people safely. Staff followed safeguarding processes and systems were effective to manage any safeguarding concerns.
People had enough to eat and drink to stay healthy. Staff worked with all agencies involved in people’s care for the best outcomes. They monitored people’s health to support healthy living.
Medicines were managed safely. Checks for safety had been carried out for the premises and for any equipment being used. Fire risks were assessed and managed. The service was clean, and we observed staff following infection prevention and control guidelines.
Quality assurance processes were in place to monitor all aspects of the service. Action plans were in place and actions taken following audits were monitored by the provider. Managers investigated incidents thoroughly and lessons learned were shared with staff.
There had been a lack of a permanent manager in post, and some staff and people’s relatives told us they would like to see this rectified. However, staff told us they felt supported, and most staff told us there was a positive culture at the service.
People's experience of this service
People told us they felt safe living at the service and spoke highly of the staff. Comments included, “The staff work hard. The patience they’ve got is amazing” and “I love it here. The staff are kind.” One person’s relative said, “We do feel that [name] is safe there as the staff are all brilliant. [Name] was initially in for respite but has now decided to stay there. Every staff member is kind, helpful and has [name’s] best interests at heart. They smile and are friendly and the atmosphere is calm and settled.”
People told us they enjoyed the food, that it was varied and there was lots of it. People told us they had opportunities to take part in activities. Some people told us they felt staff appeared rushed and didn’t always have time to sit and talk with them and some people’s relatives said they felt it was sometimes difficult to locate a member of staff.
People and their relatives told us their health needs were met, that staff responded quickly when they were unwell and supported them to attend hospital appointments.
The provider sought feedback from people and their relatives through meetings and surveys. This provided opportunities for people to give feedback on the care they received.
