Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 18 August 2026. Bybrook House Nursing Home provides accommodation with nursing care to up to 30 people. It provides care to adults of all ages, people with physical disabilities and sensory impairment. At the time of this assessment 18 people were using this service.
The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulation in relation to good governance. Improvements were not found at this assessment, and the provider remained in breach of this regulation.
Governance systems were still not effective in assessing and monitoring risk. Health and safety audits did not identify shortfalls with window restrictors. We found some windows did not have restrictors fitted and staff had repeatedly removed safety features on some restrictors to open the windows wide.
We found governance for medicines had improved however, further improvement was needed. For 1 medicine needing additional checks, we found a weekly audit had not taken place consistently. Some handwritten prescribing instructions on people’s administration records were also not correct. The registered manager took immediate action to address these shortfalls. We also found there had been some improvements with medicines management. Staff were now recording opening dates on eye drops and topical creams. Some areas of the environment had been improved, however, there was further work to do to replace flooring in some areas.
In instances where CQC has begun a process of regulatory action, we may publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded, if the action has been taken forward.
