Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 7 and 8 October 2025.

 

Aniska Lodge is a care home providing support to people living with dementia and / or nursing needs. There were 48 people living at the service on the day of our visit. This assessment was undertaken due to the age of the services rating.

 

People had enough to eat and drink to stay healthy. Staff worked with all agencies involved in people’s care for the best outcomes. They monitored people’s health to support healthy living.

 

People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff protected their privacy and dignity. They treated them as individuals and supported their preferences. People had choice in their care and were encouraged to maintain relationships with family and friends. Staff responded to people in a timely way. The provider supported staff wellbeing.

 

People were involved in decisions about their care. Staff provided information people could understand. The service worked to eliminate discrimination. People received fair and equal care and treatment. People were involved in planning their care.

 

Leaders and staff had a shared vision and culture based on listening, learning and trust. Leaders were visible, knowledgeable and supportive. Staff felt supported to give feedback and were treated equally, free from bullying or harassment. People with protected characteristics felt supported. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities. There was a culture of continuous improvement with staff given time and resources to try new ideas.

People's experience of this service

People and their relatives were positive about the quality of care. They felt safe and were involved in their careplanning. They told us they were happy with the service and described it as a “nice place” and “comfortable.” One person told us how they, “Slept well and was out like a light” and was “really comfortable.”

 

People said they received high quality care from knowledgeable staff who treated them as individuals. People told us how they were able to make choices and received care in accordance with their wishes. A relative told us, “They [staff] always listen to me and take notice. If I say [relative] likes this or that to eat, they get it in.”

 

One person told us, “They [staff] are very kind and caring.” A relative told us, “They [staff] care. They are patient with [Name].” They went on to tell us how they, “feel calm” and “I haven’t had a moment when I have been worried.”
