Our view of the service

Conifers Nursing Home is a care home providing support to people over the age of 65, some of whom may be living with a dementia. The inspection took place on Wednesday 24 and Tuesday 30 September 2025. The inspection was undertaken to follow up on the previous inspection in September 2023.

At our last inspection, the provider was in breach of regulation relating to safe care and treatment and governance. We issued the provider with a warning notice. This meant the provider needed to make improvements in relation to the management of people’s risks, the safe management of medicines, and the governance of the service.

The provider had made improvements and was no longer in breach of regulations. The management and staff team assessed and mitigated risks. Care plans now guided safe practice, and the management team had a greater oversight of the overall governance at the service.

People were supported to feel safe and were protected from the risk of harm by a staff team who were well trained. Staffing numbers were sufficient to meet people’s needs, however some staff felt more staff would be beneficial. Medicines were managed safely. There had been significant improvements since the last inspection and lessons were learned when things went wrong.

There was a new staff structure in place where the new manager led by example to promote a positive and inclusive service. Staff understood their roles and responsibilities. There were governance systems in place which allowed the management team to continually monitor and improve the safety and quality of the service, and this was on-going.

People's experience of this service

During the on-site inspection, we spoke with 3 people and 2 relatives. An Expert by Experience made telephone calls to people’s relatives on Thursday 25 September 2025 and spoke with 10 relatives. An Expert by Experience is a person who has personal experience of using or caring for someone who uses this type of care service.

Where people could not speak with us, we used The Short Observational Framework for Inspection (SOFI). SOFI is a way of observing care to help us understand the experience of people who could not talk with us.

People shared positive experiences of the care and support they received. They spoke warmly of the staff, describing them as kind and friendly.

Comments we received included, “The best thing is that they are all very caring, it is a nice atmosphere- friendly, relaxed and there’s a good team working together who are always around. There are no issues”, “I feel safe enough here- I like it” and “The carers are good to me.”
