Our view of the service

Date of assessment 03 March to 26 March 2026. Eastwood House is a residential care home providing personal care to older adults and people living with dementia. At the time of the assessment the service supported 19 people. The last rating for Eastwood House was requires improvement [published 10 November 2025]. This inspection was planned to review the breaches of regulation related to safe care and treatment and good governance.

During this assessment we found the provider had made improvements, however remained in breach of regulation relating to good governance. There was also a continued breach of the regulation relating to safe care and treatment The overall rating for this service has remained requires improvement. An action plan was requested to follow up concerns.

Staff supported people in a kind and caring manner. Staff mostly had accurate information to ensure they supported people safely. We found improvements were needed to ensure medicines were managed safely. Whilst people received their oral medicines safely from trained staff, the storage and management of refrigerated items needed improvement to ensure these were also managed safely. Some improvements had been made in infection prevention and control and risk management. However, these were not sufficiently embedded at this time.

Safeguarding processes had been strengthened to ensure people were protected from the risk of abuse. Governance systems in place were highlighting some areas for improvement. However, they did not always record that action had been taken to address identified concerns. The registered manager was not always aware of their regulatory requirements, which meant incidents were not always reported. However, improvement in recording of incidents had improved lessons learnt as there was improved analysis of accidents and incidents.

Staff were recruited safely, and staff worked well together, which meant people were happy living at Eastwood House. All people we spoke with told us they felt safe living at Eastwood House. Staff felt supported and respected in their roles. The provider was responsive to our feedback and took action to address the most serious concerns to protect people from the risk of harm.

In instances where CQC has begun a process of regulatory action, we may publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded, if the action has been taken forward.
