Our view of the service

The assessment began on 9 October and concluded 27 October 2025.

We assessed 33 quality statements.

Richard House Care Home is a residential care home providing care to up to 33 people. The service provides support to people aged over 65 in one building over two floors. At the time of the assessment there were 15 people using the service.

During our last inspection we identified breaches in relation to safe recruitment, safe management and administration of medicines and governance of the service.

We undertook this comprehensive assessment to check if the provider met legal requirements.

During this assessment we found significant improvement made by the provider and they were no longer in breach of regulations. The provider had made changes to their recruitment process, and this now ensured safe practices were followed. Previous issues with the management of medicines had been resolved and medicines were managed safely. During the last assessment there was a lack of governance and oversight in place but now we found there were better systems and procedures in place to support this. However, some further improvements still need to take place regarding robustness of internal systems and procedures.

During this assessment we spoke to 6 people using the service, 4 relatives and 8 staff members including the registered manager. We also received some positive feedback from partners and stakeholders the provider worked with.

People's experience of this service

We spoke with 6 people using the service and 4 relatives. Feedback received from people, and their relatives was very positive. People told us, they felt safe and were cared for by staff who was kind, compassionate and knew them well. One person told us, “I’m very happy here. Staff are lovely and I feel safe.” Both people and their relatives commented that the care team was stable with very low staff turnover which made a positive impact on the care and support people received. One relative told us, “There is a consistency of staff. They don’t use an agency here.” During our assessment we spoke with some of partners and stakeholders the provider worked with, and the received feedback was overwhelmingly positive. One stakeholder told us, “Home is very transparent and open in its dealing, and the care delivered to people is good.”
