Our view of the service
Date of assessment 05 May 2026 to 08 June 2026. Rayners Residential Care Home provides support to older people, some of whom are living with dementia. The accommodation for people is spread over two floors. At the time of this assessment, 39 people were living at Rayners Residential Care Home.
People’s needs were assessed before and after they moved into the home to ensure these could be met safely. This was used as the basis for personalised care plans to ensure care supported people’s preferences and wellbeing. People were supported to eat and drink well and were provided with opportunities to take part in activities and social events, if they wished.
The service had initiatives in place to promote and support people with their health and wellbeing and routinely monitored people’s care and treatment.
People were treated with kindness and compassion. Staff knew people well and responded to their needs.
The provider had safeguarding processes in place and people could raise concerns.Staff consistently told us how they felt supported in their roles. They felt confident to speak up and knew they would be listened to. Staff were very clear about the shared vision for the service, ‘a home for life’.
Governance and oversight systems were not always effective. Audits failed to identify the risks we found at this assessment in relation to the environment, infection control, and safe medicine management. These issues were discussed with the provider and management team at the time of the assessment, and they agreed to take immediate action to address these concerns.
The provider had recently undertaken recruitment of overseas workers via a third party organisation and was not in possession of sufficient documentation to demonstrate suitability of staff appointed under this scheme.
The nominated individual and registered manager were proactive to our feedback and made some immediate changes to improve environmental safety.
We found the provider was in breach of the regulation relating to safe care and treatment and also in breach of the regulation relating to good governance.
