Kindness, compassion and dignity

Score: 3

The provider always treated people with kindness, empathy and compassion and respected their privacy and dignity. Staff treated colleagues from other organisations with kindness and respect.

Treating people as individuals

Score: 3

We did not look at Treating people as individuals during this assessment. The score for this quality statement is based on the previous rating for Caring.

Independence, choice and control

Score: 4

The provider was exceptional at promoting people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.

People were encouraged to live as they chose to, and staff fitted into people’s preferred routines. One person told us, “They expect you to live a life. They want you to take part in things, maintain your interests.”

People told us they were involved in all decisions about their care and could be as independent as they choose to be. People could choose to manage their own medicines and healthcare needs or carry out household tasks which were important to them.

Staff looked at ways to make sure people could continue to do the things that were important to them. For example, one person liked to have friends and family visit to play cards as they had always done before they moved to the home. As their abilities declined, they found it difficult to continue with this important activity. Staff provided large print cards and card holders so they could continue with this important social interaction and maintain positive relationships.
