Our view of the service

Date of assessment: 19 January to 28 January 2026. Abbey Village Limited is a residential care home providing accommodation and personal care for older people and younger people, some of whom are living with dementia. The provider can support up to 34 people. At the time of the inspection there were 33 people living at the service. The assessment was conducted in response to warning notices issued at the provider’s previous inspection. At our last assessment, the service was rated requires improvement. The service was in breach of regulations relating to safe care and treatment, good governance, person centered care, meeting nutritional and hydration needs and staffing. At this assessment we found the provider had made improvements and was no longer in breach of regulations. The assessment was unannounced and was carried out by 2 inspectors, a medicines inspector and an Expert by Experience. An Expert by Experience is a person who has personal experience of using or caring for someone who uses this type of care service. We undertook a comprehensive assessment looking at all the quality statements. Medicines were managed safely overall. However, stock checks were not in line with national guidance. Staff where safely recruited and they received training, supervision and competency checks. Staff were caring and knowledgeable about people’s needs. Staff protected people from the risk of abuse. Staff treated people were treated with kindness and compassion and protected their privacy and dignity. They treated them as individuals and supported their preferences. Staff responded to people in a timely way. Some improvements were needed to the environment. The provider took immediate action following our feedback. Governance systems were robust and audits were regularly completed. However, recording keeping remained a concern and where there were discrepancies which had not been identified in audits. We did not find any impact on people using the service and the registered manager took prompt action in response to our feedback and was committed to continuing to improve the service.
