Independence, choice and control
The provider promoted people’s independence, so people knew their rights and had choice and control over their own care, treatment and wellbeing.
Staff supported people with kindness and compassion. They offered people choices about their everyday lives. For example, what time they wanted to get up and go to bed and what they wanted to eat. Where people struggled to make decisions about their lives staff simplified choices by giving them options. For example, by showing a person two different plates of food and asking which one they would prefer. One person told us, “The food is excellent I get a choice.” A relative told us, “They are good at supporting independence.”
People were supported to maintain their relationship with family members. A relative explained how staff went the extra mile to support another relative who required extra support to visit. They said maintaining this relationship was important for their loved one’s comfort and well-being.
Staff worked to ensure they supported people to retain their abilities. A member of staff told us, “If someone can do something for themselves, I encourage them. We need to keep people skilled as long as possible.
