Our view of the service
Date of assessment: 3 June to 10 July 2026. We carried out this assessment because we have received concerns about risks relating to people’s safety and governance.
Bishops Cleeve Care Home is a residential care home supporting older people, some of which may be living with dementia. The service is registered to support up to 64 people and at the time of our inspection 42 people were living at the service.
At the time of the assessment, there was no registered manager in place. The acting manager was acting manager at the time of the assessment.
The inspection identified concerns relating to risk management and oversight, care planning, medicines management, record keeping and governance. People's risks were not always effectively assessed, monitored or managed, and care records did not consistently reflect people's needs, known risks or the care they had received. We also identified concerns relating to wound management, falls management and medicines oversight. These issues had not been consistently identified or addressed through the provider's governance arrangements.
Following feedback during the inspection, the provider engaged positively with the inspection process and took prompt action to address the concerns identified. This included reviewing care records, introducing additional monitoring tools and strengthening management oversight. Although we found evidence some improvements had been implemented during the inspection period, they had not yet become fully embedded in practice and further work was required to demonstrate sustained improvement.
The provider was previously in breach of legal relations relating to person centred care. Safe care and treatment and governance. Improvements were not found at this assessment and the provider remained in breach of these regulations.
The provider was previously in breach of the legal regulation relating to safeguarding. Improvement had been made at this assessment, and they were no longer in breach of this regulation.
In instances where CQC has begun a process of regulatory action, we may publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded, if the action has been taken forward.
People's experience of this service
We received positive feedback from people and relatives. Most people told us they felt safe living in the service. Most people and relatives were generally happy with the care received, however there were some complaints about the service being short-staffed and there being a lack of communication from the provider about issues with the lift. One person said, “What is there about this place that I wasn’t supposed to like? I’m the luckiest blighter on the planet – just look at it.” While people expressed general satisfaction with their care and treatment, our assessment found elements of care did not meet the expected standards.
