People should be protected from abuse and staff should respect their human rights (outcome 7)

Meeting this standard

We checked that people who use this service

  • Are protected from abuse, or the risk of abuse, and their human rights are respected and upheld.

How this check was done

We looked at the personal care or treatment records of people who use the service, carried out a visit on 23 September 2013 and 24 September 2013, talked with people who use the service and talked with carers and / or family members. We talked with staff and talked with commissioners of services.

Our judgement

People who use the service were protected from the risk of abuse, because the provider had taken reasonable steps to identify the possibility of abuse and prevent abuse from happening.

Reasons for our judgement

Staff told us that they received training in how to safeguard people and were aware of the reporting procedures in the agency. Staff knew about agencies involved in the protection of vulnerable adults, understood them and would contact them if necessary. One member of staff said, "I have had the training and would inform the office. I have the numbers for safeguarding (local authority)".

There was evidence that all staff had undertaken the training and that it was completed in the agency office so that staff’s questions could be answered and information discussed.
