Archived: Middle West Care Home

Some of the people who lived in the home had complex needs which meant that they were not able to tell us their experiences of using the service; we therefore used our observations to help inform some of our judgements. We saw that people were supported around the home by staff in a kind and sensitive manner, in a way that promoted individual independence.

People we spoke with told us they were "Happy" living at Middle West. They told us that the staff were "Excellent" and "Supportive". People also told us that they regularly took part in activities that they enjoyed. One person said "I've got a job which I love" and "I enjoy doing cross stitch which the staff support me with".

We found that appropriate checks were in place to confirm the suitability of staff to work with vulnerable adults.

People's care records were reviewed regularly and had been kept up to date in order to reflect their needs. We also found that records had been stored securely.

Positive comments received from people living in the home indicated a high level of satisfaction with the home and the services provided:

"This home is so much better than my old home. We are just one big family and I feel very well looked after here".

"I have lived here for twenty-two years and would not want to live anywhere else".

We saw that there were sufficient numbers of staff available to provide care to people using the service and there were systems in place for ensuring that staff were available as a result of any unexpected changes in circumstances such as sickness.

We found that there were systems in place for ensuring that the views and opinions of people using the service and their representatives such as parents and advocates were taken into consideration and acted upon where necessary to improve the service.
